Water Saving Tips

1. Fix Leaks Immediately

  • Even a small drip from a faucet or a running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water per month. Regularly check faucets, sprinklers, and irrigation systems for leaks — and repair them promptly.

2. Install Water-Efficient Fixtures

  • Upgrade to WaterSense-labeled toilets, faucets, and showerheads. These can reduce indoor water use by up to 20% without sacrificing performance.

3. Shorten Showers

  • Every minute in the shower uses about 2.5 gallons of water. Try to keep showers under 5 minutes — and consider a low-flow showerhead to save even more.

4. Turn Off the Tap

  • Don’t let water run while brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing dishes. Turning off the tap can save up to 200 gallons per month per household.

5. Water Plants Wisely

  • Water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation. Adjust sprinklers to avoid watering sidewalks or driveways, and use drip irrigation where possible.

6. Use Drought-Tolerant Landscaping

  • Replace thirsty lawns with California native or drought-tolerant plants. They’re beautiful, low-maintenance, and designed to thrive in our dry climate.

7. Collect and Reuse Water

  • Use a rain barrel or cistern to capture rainwater for landscape irrigation. You can also reuse greywater from sinks or washing machines (where permitted).

8. Run Full Loads

  • Only run washing machines and dishwashers when full. This simple habit can save up to 1,000 gallons of water per month.

9. Sweep, Don’t Spray

  • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways, patios, and sidewalks. It’s cleaner, faster, and can save dozens of gallons every time.

10. Be a Water Advocate

  • Educate your friends, family, and neighbors about conservation. Small community efforts add up — together, we can make a big difference.
